How to Survive a PCS: A Couple Months To Go!

Well, here we are - a couple months away... Here's what we have:

A messy house. Hardly organized.
A pile of stuff that needs to get recycled/sold.
A bunch of phone calls that need to get made.
Still have visitors, so we've been avoiding our responsibilities, although we should be taking advantage...

1) We know when the movers are coming.
  • Twice. We get 2 separate shipments. So two days to deal with movers.
  • That means we have to separate the bulk of the stuff, the more necessary but can't-bring-in-luggage stuff, and what will stay with us. And make sure the movers take the right stuff...
  • Not to mention the organizing/documenting we should do ahead of time. Oops.
  • We could be without our stuff for up to 3 months.
2) We are shipping our stuff early.
  • This means we have temporary furniture showing up so we aren't just sleeping on an air mattress we don't have and sitting on the floor all day everyday. Yay, gov't issued furniture!
  • I should note, I won't have a TV in my house for over a month. WHAT am I going to do without TV to keep me company?!?!
3) We have our hotel dates set up.
  • But we weren't given as many days as we thought so we have to change the dates we booked.
  • This means we have to change the date of the 2nd pick up by the movers.
4) We have to ship our car. This is happening before the movers.
  • As in like, 2 weeks from now.
  • There's appointments involved. Car has to be detailed ($$), pass an inspection, paperwork...
  • And we have to rent a car. For over a month. And pay in euro.
  • That's expensive. Very. Close to $1,000. And that's for a stick shift. As in, I can't even drive it.
  • Oh, and the whole 2 week time frame we wanted to ship the car is all under a "delay" because apparently the ship broke down 2 months ago, and so the reason we're shipping the car so soon might end up not working out as planned anyways.
5) We know when we're leaving here. And that we're taking leave before we head to Colorado.
  • I'm not putting dates on here, though, sorry!
  • But we still have to figure out HOW we're getting to "home" aka; where we're taking leave. And then how we're getting to Colorado, should our car not show up while we're on leave.
  • Which it likely won't. Cuz of the delayed ship and whatnot.
  • But we can't plan ahead because we don't know when our car will show up, so we just have to sit and wait and see what happens.
Got all that?!!?
